Mental Health First Aid aware (online course)

This four hour course is an introductory session to raise awareness of mental health. It is designed to give:

– An understanding of what mental health is and how to challenge stigma
– A basic knowledge of some common mental health issues
– An introduction to looking after your own mental health
– Confidence to interact with someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue
– Insight into the two day course and the benefits of becoming a Mental Health First Aider

This course is currently only available for ONLY delivery

What will I learn?

The Adult MHFA awareness course is an introductory 4 hour mental health course.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to:

– Define mental health and some common mental health issues
– Identify stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues
– Relate to people’s experiences and support people in distress
– Look after your own mental health.

How will I learn?

This 4 hour session will be a mix of presentations, group interaction, and activities. Due to some of the sensitive subjects of our courses, there is a limited number of places available per course. We want everyone to feel safe and our instructors can help if people find some parts particularly difficult. Where possible we will engage service users to learn from ‘lived experience’.

You’ll receive the learning materials in the post prior to the course. Please ensure you put enter the postal address you wish to receive these. This may be work or home address.

Who can attend the course?

The course is for everyone aged 16 and above. You do not require any qualifications or experience in mental health to take part. Registration is MANDATORY. 

How much will it cost?

The course is nationally valued at £125 Per Person. We are offering limited number of funded places for Tower Hamlets staff

Delegates are required to pay a £20 deposit for the work manuals. Deposit will be refunded on completion of the course.

Courses can also be delivered in house in your organisation at discounted rates. Please do get in touch with us for further details.

How do I book onto a course?


Below are the current course dates. please click on the course date you wish to attend to book your place. Registration will be completed via Eventbrite. 

Pre-requisite:

  • You must have a working mic and webcam to participate. This is mandatory. This also helps build trust and encourages people to share more openly, as well as allowing us to feel more connected with one another

  • It may be worth thinking about the environment that you are in, a nice quiet place where you are less likely to get interrupted works best

  • It may be worth joining the session slightly early to familiarise yourself with the functions of the platform we’ll be using

  • You should be able to know how to turn cameras and Mics on and off

  • You should be able to use the ‘chat’ function on zoom

  • Access any ‘breakout rooms’ or smaller virtual spaces (your facilitator will guide and support you)

  • Rejoin the call if the connection drops out

  • Please note that late entry will be denied AND early leavers will not be provided with a certificate

  • Places cancelled within 14 days of the delivery date
