GP Protected Learning Time programme
The Protected Learning Time programme are monthly learning sessions primarily aimed at the General practice staff but where possible extending to the wider health and care workforce.
The primary aim of these sessions are to support workforce, through the facilitation of education, improve knowledge and working ways to deliver world class patient care. The agenda setting of these sessions are generated through the demand of the workforce, in the form of educational gaps and areas of developmental opportunities. Survey monkey has been conducted at the beginning of the year to determine areas and topics the workforce would like the CCG to focus on. The GP Care Group Education sub-committee discuss and agree on ways of balancing the demand of topics with the CCG and local health and wellbeing priorities.
Expenses of closing surgeries to enable staff to attend the monthly protected learning time (PLT) sessions are covered by the GP Care Group CIC. The urgent care service receive telephone calls when surgeries are closed. Surgeries are required to notify the GP Care Group Education team in advance if they wish to request cover for a particular PLT session.
This year 10 central PLT sessions have been organised focusing on the multi-disciplinary workforce:
