Level 3 Safegaurding CHildren Update for GPs and Practice Nurses

THIS TRAINING IS ONLY OPEN TO GPs & PRACTICE NURSES WORKING IN TOWER HAMLETS

This is mandatory training that needs to be completed every 3 years. If you attended last year you do not need to attend again!

Similar to previous sessions the online training needs to be completed prior to the session. The training can be accessed at:

The 3 modules are:

SGC Level 2a (2010) - Recognition, Response and Record in Primary Care

02_01 Level 2 Part A – Recognition

  • Identify child maltreatment in its different forms (physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and neglect) including prevalence and impact

  • Recognise common physical and behavioural signs of child maltreatment

  • Understand factors in the child, parents, family and environment that increase the risk of child maltreatment or neglect

  • Understand some of the barriers to the recognition of child abuse and neglect


02a_02 Level 2 Part B - Response in Primary Care

  • List who to inform when you are concerned that a child may be being abused

  • Describe the process for sharing information about concerns regarding safeguarding a child

  • Explain the steps of the child protection process

  • Clarify professional roles in child safeguarding

  • Describe when to consult other relevant professionals for support


02a_03 Level 2 Part C - Record in Primary Care

  • Describe how to document safeguarding concerns, differentiating between fact and opinion

  • Describe how to share information – in writing, by phone, and electronically

  • Describe what to record, how long to keep it and how to dispose of records correctly

Please be aware that you need to allow 24 hours between registering and being able to log in to complete the modules if you are not already registered.


As time is pressured we will not be repeating the content covered in the on-line sessions.

This year candidates will receive a paper certificate at the end of the face to face training, the certificate will only be valid in conjunction with evidence of the level 2 e-learning modules (This will be clearly stated on the certificate).
