Care Certificate Programme

This programme is designed for staff in GP Practices who wish to become clinical HCA’s and for Social Service staff in non-residential care settings.

Since April 2015 all staff new to Health Care Support Worker roles need to complete the Care Certificate as part of their induction to the new clinical role.  This ensures they are aware of the behaviours and competencies expected of them and can provide high quality care. This Care Certificate Programme is delivered by a multi-professional teaching team from General Practice and Community Services.

Teaching sessions will cover the following areas:

Please note Standard 12; Basic Life Support (practical training) and Standard 13 Health and Safety is not covered as it is a legal requirement that the employer provides this training. The employer must ensure that staff are appropriately trained in this area.

Attendees are required to be assessed in practice by an assessor ideally within 12 weeks following completion of the taught course.  However, part time staff will be given up to 6 months. Assessor’s training workshop will take place on Tuesday 15th January from 13.00-16.30 at Beaumont House, Room F24.

N.B. Assessors must attend this session unless they have previous experience of Care Certificate training assessment. Assistant Practitoners or Practice Nurses are suitable for this role.  Please contact Saloni Gaglani if you have any queries about the role and the training.
